Have You Obtained Your Inheritance

Paul wrote, “In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will” (Eph. 1:11). All Christians can rejoice in the fact that they have “Obtained An Inheritance”.  Many who read this will connect obtaining an inheritance to going to heaven. We don’t want to travel down that road and just assume that’s what Paul’s saying.

This inheritance that Paul speaks of—is that we are God’s people—God’s inheritance—and I feel really good saying that. I think psalm 33 sums this idea up pretty well. Read and rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous!  From v.4, “For the word of the Lord is right, and all His work is done in truth”, then v.6, “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and all the host of them by the breath of His mouth”  Now v.9, “For He spoke, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast. ” At verse 10 we know what we are talking about, the Lord who brings the counsel of the nations to nothing.  And I love verse 12, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance” (Psa. 33:12).

The God of Creation, the Almighty, the One who made it possible, the plans of His heart included a sinner like me to be called His own, His inheritance. I mean—WOW! My hope is that when this lesson is over you will all have a wonderful and encouraging painting before you—that will connect your thoughts of what “an inheritance is”, and what it means to you, as God’s child, how we possess this inheritance, and clearer understanding of the guarantee of your inheritance, as Paul wrote, “who[a] is the [b]guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory” (Eph. 1:14).
