Put On the Whole Armor

Paul teaches us about what we all need to be victorious in Christ—and against the devil. In order for that to happen we must, Put On the Whole Armor of God. He begins by teaching us where the source of our strength comes from…

Our Strength Is In The Lord – “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might” (Eph. 6:10). Paul is saying if you expect to win the battle for your soul—you will need the strength and power and might that – isn’t found in yourself. Your adversary the Devil is walking about like a roaring lion—and seeks to devour your soul. Make no mistake—he is powerful—he is real. Many will lose the battle for their soul because of “worldly grafted pride”: What is that? Self-Empowerment: Just think it and you can do it: Think positive thoughts: I am strong, I can fight my own battles, I have everything I need, my strength, my power, my might. . .
If we were to stand against the devil—right here—right now—all of us united together, all our individual strength combined—we would all loose. Without the power that comes from the Lord—we don’t have a chance. 10,000 of us standing together against that devil, 100,000 – we will all fall in defeat. Without God’s strength and might—we don’t stand a chance. Paul said, “…be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might” – the strength needs to be in the Lord.

We all need to put on the full armor – “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the [a]wiles of the devil” (Eph. 6:11). Leave out one piece and you are vulnerable. When a soldier goes into battle, he doesn’t stand a chance if puts on his helmet leaves his sword at home. In the same way we are unprotected without the whole armor of God.

Understand at verse 12, Paul warns us that the battle is not one of a physical nature rather we are Battling Spiritual Forces of Evil, “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of [a]the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Eph. 6:12). The devil is coming for you, but he won’t be pulling up to your house, he won’t call you on the phone, he won’t call you out to the street and challenge you to a duel. We are not battling the things we can see, like flesh and blood. Remember Job, as Satan is accusing God’s servant Job and even accuses God of making a hedge around Job, around his household, and around all that he has on every side” (Job 1:9), but Job never saw his accuser face to face.
