Is No News Good News?

Paul said, “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent?” (Romans 10:14-15a). Are you listening to the news? Are you hearing much “good news”? Not likely! Politics, shootings, murder, all have filled the majority of air time. With all this, one must wonder if there is any good news left. With this in mind I’d like to spiritually challenge the common phrase we’ve all heard, “no news is good news” with the question “Is No News Good News?”

What is Truth?

American television comedian Stephen Colbert coined the term truthiness in this meaning as the subject of a segment called “The Word” during the pilot episode of his political satire program The Colbert Report on October 17, 2005. Though the purpose may not have been to deny absolute truth exist, the devil is much wiser that those he influences and his goal is the subtle manipulating of the minds of individuals into believing that “just plain truth” doesn’t exist, but he is dead wrong. Truth exist, but the recipient of it will not always appreciate it.

From the Beginning

“…the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Corinthians 2:14) What does this mean? It means there are those who don’t have the spirit from God. Therefore, they are incapable of discerning spiritual things. Like the old “Dick Tracy Decoder”, or like the old, “Decoder Rings”; You couldn’t know what was written without the decoder. In much that same way without the Spirit of God working in you—you can’t discern spiritual things. You can’t order the spiritual influence online—you must receive it from God—as a seal of your salvation and you can only receive this by being scripturally baptized into Christ for the forgiveness of your sins—just as those on the day of Pentecost did – Acts 2:38

Together

I don’t believe that any of the brethren here today would disagree with the statement that this world is divided and separated in many ways. What should Christians be doing in the face of this? The answer is that we need to be the absolute opposite. We need to be in harmony, and unity together with one another. Today I would like to discuss the importance of togetherness and unity in the body of Christ and how we need one another to reach our common goal of heaven.

One More is Too Many

Just like in Paul’s day—many who hear the gospel today—reject it—condemning their own souls. Many, chose not to accept what the Bible says—just to follow what mere men say. Many, just build churches randomly—inserting their own plan—in place of God’s divine plan. To their own demise spiritually—they refuse simple teaching in God’s word—and with stubborn hearts—hold fast to the teaching of men. They—like the Jews in Paul’s day “judge themselves unworthy of everlasting life” Acts 13:46. In Matthew 16:18 Jesus said “I will build my church”, How many would He build? In this lesson we’ll examine that question and more.

Three Classes at the Judgment

For most people when they think of the Judgment two groups come to mind. The sheep and the goats, the saved and the unsaved. But within are really three groups, those the Lord never knew – those the Lord once knew and the faithful children of God. Spiritual knowledge is powerful and knowing what group you’re in can help you save your soul…

Prenuptial Faith

Do we approach our faith with reservation like some approach a marriage. Going into a marriage relationship with a “prenuptial agreement”, is like putting only one foot in the door, leaving an out in case things don’t word out. This kind of commitment doesn’t add to the hope of a strong marriage relationship. In the same way, many seem to approach God with a “Prenuptial” attitude. I want to follow you with all my heart Lord but, I want to be sure it doesn’t cost me anything, and that I have possession of all my “things” in case this doesn’t work out…

CONCLUSIONS

We spend a lifetime coming to conclusions, some we reach are good, some not so good. Reaching wrong conclusions occur from implementing our bias, or a lack of information and when we dismiss pertinent facts. What we must understand is that every conclusion come with a consequence, good or bad. When we spiritually don’t conclude rightly, the consequence is eternal and devastating.

To The Work Part 2

This is Part 2 of To The Work: The religious world we live in today famous for the saying, “unity through diversity” is become very confused about what the church is, and what it is to do.
• Is the church to be reforming societal views? • Is the church supposed to feed the poor? • Is the church to entertain the masses? • Is it the job of the church to be a daycare for the community—Sponsor Zumba classes—quilting clubs—Boy Scouting? Many believe all these and more to be works of the church. But those many also believe that the church is a dynamic and ever-evolving institution, under the control of man. But it was God who designed the church (Eph. 3:10-11), established it on earth (Matt. 16:18), and gave it a work to do. In this lesson we’ll learn from the inspired word what three things the church Jesus built is authorized to do.
