John in chapters 18 and 19 records three times Pilate declared Jesus to be innocent. Pilate, “went out again to the Jews, and said to them, I find no fault in Him at all” (18:38), “Behold, I am bringing Him out to you, that you may know that I find no fault in Him” (v.4), “You take Him and crucify Him, for I find no fault in Him” (v.6). Jesus, perfectly innocent, was scourged, beaten, bloodied, spit on, mocked, humiliated. They pressed a crown of thorns into His head, put a purple robe on Him and put Him on display to the Jews.
