Being Like-Minded Toward One Another

Being like-minded is easy when it comes to personal interests like hobbies, sports, and food but, not so much when it comes to politics and “in the world”, religion. I say it that way because in this old world today there are literally thousands of Christian denominations who are pretty much contradictory to each other, otherwise they wouldn’t be “denominations”. According to the World Christian Encyclopedia Second Edition 2001, under the “status of Christianity and religions in the modern world”, there were at that time “33,820 distinct Christian denominations across the world.” Today in 2023 that number is over 38,000.

Paul pleaded with the church in Corinth saying, “Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all [a]speak the same thing, and that there be no [b]divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.” (1 Cor. 1:10). Is Christ divided Paul asked? No, Christ is not!

The only way to have unity, is to be like-minded, and the only way for that to be accomplished is for all who call on the name of the Lord Jesus to walk by the same spirit. That only happens when men and women all believe the things written by the one Spirit. Truly there is only one body that is the church that Christ bought and paid for with His own blood (Col. 1:18; Acts 20:28), and only one Spirit as Paul said, “just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all.” (Eph. 4:1-6).

The only way to be like-minded is to believe the same things — the word of God provides the things we must believe. Nothing added, nothing removed, and nothing changed. Just God’s inspired word.

Yes, being like-minded is easy when it comes to faith is easy as 1, 2, 3, when we let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom (Col. 3:16). Falling short of that will always cause division.
