Establishing Bible Authority

There is one single reason for the tremendous confusion in “Christianity” and that is the avoidance and absence of Bible Authority. Paul pleads for unity of the Spirit and the bond of peace (Eph. 4:1-2), then says, “4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in [c]you all.” (vs.4-5).

If we all accept the Bible as the authoritative standard in religion we would not have over 32,000 individual denominations that are for the most part contradictory to one another. Why don’t Presbyterians worship with Lutherans? Why are Catholics so different from Baptist? The answer is simple, they all believe differently. We have one guide book, one standard, it is called the Bible which is God breathed (2 Tim. 3:16-17) and given to man so that man may have all that pertains to life and godliness (2 Pet. 1:3).  If your “church” has a creed book, a book titled, “What we believe”, or anything as a supplement to the Bible then you are in the wrong church.

Just like the standard tape measure that contractors use to measure and cut items can be used anywhere in the world to get the same length every time, so is the Bible the measure for the Lord’s church. His people use the same standard, get the same answers every time–because it never changes.
