Living for the things of this world are fleeting and temporary, because we will all face death, and we all know, you can’t take it with you!
Living for eternity offers what this world cannot, a place in Heaven. That faith is powerful—and when we walk worthy, when we walk to please God, we have confidence and will not easily be shaken by the troubles we face because of our faith. Living for eternity instills joy in us here and now, because we know there is a great day coming, a great day when the children of God will see Jesus. We rejoice because we know we will be lifted into eternity, and finally see the face of the of God our Father.
All made possible because of the resurrection, and the promise Jesus made, “…I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also” (John 14:3). Paul here is addressing a concern the Thessalonian saints have, though we don’t know exactly what, but some is understood by the words, “But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as indeed the rest of mankind do, who have no hope” (1 Thess. 4:13 NASB).
“about those who are asleep“ is telling us enough to know it had to do with the resurrection. We know some mocked the resurrection (Acts 17:32). But we have knowledge, we know what will happen in the end when Christ returns. “16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord” (1 Thess. 4:16-17).
