Sing to Me of Heaven

Sing to Me of Heaven

What comes to your mind when you hear the word “home”? I remember living in many homes. The longest time spent in Kenmore Ohio, a big yard, old wooden stairs up to the second and third floors. A shed made from an old yellow delivery truck. Now think of the word “Heaven.” What images come to your mind? What emotions are stirred within you? One emotion which should be there is a longing for Heaven.

2 Peter 3:11-14, 11 Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 12 looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be dissolved, being on fire, and the elements will melt with fervent heat? 13 Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. 14 Therefore, beloved, looking forward to these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, without spot and blameless;”

The early Christians lived for Heaven, yearning for a home with God forever.  Our cry must be that of Paul 1 Cor. 16:22,O Lord, come!”…And of John in 22:20, “Amen, Even so, come, Lord Jesus!”…Paul expressed such a longing in 2 Corinthians 5:2, “For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our [a]habitation which is from heaven,”…we sing, “What a joy ’twill be ‘when I wake to see Him for whom my heart is burning! Nevermore to sigh, nevermore to die – For that day my heart is yearning.”…we sing, “Closing my eyes at eve and thinking of heaven’s grace, Longing to see my Lord, yes, meeting Him face to face.”.

Let us ever raise our voices to proclaim, “O Zion, Zion, I long thy gates to see; O Zion, Zion, when shall I dwell in thee?” Truly, “sing to me of Heaven” ought to be on the lips of every Christian. Sing of the Preparer of Heaven, sing of the your hope of being with the Lord, of the parting from the troubles and cares of this life, of the Glory, of the time without pain, suffering, tears or death, and of the end of sin.
