Unpopular Way – Part 7
Women Preachers, Elders and Deacons
I would bring to your remembrance the words of Jesus who said, “25 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and is himself destroyed or lost? 26 For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels.” (Luke 9:25-26).
Without Question—Every Christian around the globe who is serious about walking in the Spirit and not the flesh will be: 1-Unashamed and 2-Unpopular in the eyes of the world.
We are Not Ashamed to Own Our Lord and not ashamed of the gospel!
Consider this command from Paul, “11 Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. 12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence.” (1 Tim. 2:11-12).
- Right up front, we need to be clear—God in the New Testament never implied that man, has more value, or is superior to a woman.
- In fact, in respect to the value of men and women who are in Christ, God said, “there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus” (Gal. 3:28).
- With God there is no partiality (Rom. 2:11), for God is not a respecter of persons.
But clearly, we affirm that God made man and woman different and gave them different roles. We equally affirm that rejecting the truth that men and women are different is to reject God. Simply put, God gave men the authoritative role of teaching in the church, and not women. We are not ashamed of this gospel truth—it is from God…
We will look at this from two perspectives, 1-the root of the problem, and 2-What the scriptures say.
Because many, even some brethren, are ashamed, and the root of the problem occurs when…
“I Believe” = I’m Unwilling to Accept Bible Authority! – Isa. 56:11; Gal. 1:7; Isa. 55:7; Matt. 15:19
Bear with me as I explain with an illustration: Back in 2000, the Southern Baptist Convention introduced an amendment to their “The Baptist Faith and Message”. There were those who were for “The Law Amendment” and those who were against it. The Law Amendment: “…While both men and women are gifted for service in the church, the office of pastor/elder/overseer is limited to men as qualified by Scripture.” (Those who chose the good path, sighted 1 Tim. 2:11-12; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Tim. 3:1-13, the same scripture that I’ll present in a moment) But here is the real problem, see if you can identify it. In a statement given by Kenneth R. Jenkins, he says: “I am a Baptist and frankly I do not agree because “I believe” a women can shepherd the Church just as good as the men and I’ve seen it enough in my lifetime. If the SBC continues with this kind of unholy behavior, I’m afraid there be some kind of split between those SBC members…” [Kenneth R. Jenkins]. I must also mention the second the entire second argument against the Law Amendment, did not contain on single scripture to support their stance—not one period—that’s telling.
Can you see the “Real Problem” in Mr. Jenkins statement? It’s right there when he said, I believe, and not the scripture says…
