When Two Become One
In Genesis 2 we read, “21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man. 23 And Adam said: “This is now bone of my bones And flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” 24 Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” (Gen. 2:21-24).
When Adam and Eve, the two, became one flesh it was by the power of God. He alone has the power to create and establish good things. Paul wrote, “8 For man is not from woman, but woman from man. 9 Nor was man created for the woman, but woman for the man. 10 For this reason the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels. 11 Nevertheless, neither is man independent of woman, nor woman independent of man, in the Lord. 12 For as woman came from man, even so man also comes through woman; but all things are from God.” (1 Cor. 11:8-12).
So, as we think of these things, how God takes two and makes one according to His will, we would like to look at a story from the scriptures. Turn over to the book of Ruth…
