“What must I do to be saved?”(Acts 16:30)
Above is the greatest question ever asked. Asked by a jailer to the Apostle Paul and Silas. What was the answer Paul gave?
“Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him”
(Acts 16:31-32).
Jesus is the one way (John 14:6; Eph. 4:4-6) yet if you ask men this question you will hear many ways. But if you ask God’s word, you’ll only get one answer. When the word of the Lord, the gospel of Jesus Christ is spoken in answer to this question, unlike men of the world, the Lord and His word always gives the same answer. In the New Testament every time Jesus is preached, every record of persons being saved, concludes in their believing and being baptized. The word of the Lord is right!

- Hearing truth is hearing God, His word is truth. (John 17:17) Paul said: “Faith comes by hearing, hearing by the word of God.” (Rom. 10:17) Jesus said, “And they shall all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me” (John 6:45)
You must Believe
- You must believe in God and Christ. Jesus said: “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.” (John 14:1) “…for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins”(John 8:24) “But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6) The scriptures were written so that we may “…believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God” (John 20:30-31).
You must Repent of your sin
- Jesus said, “…except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish” (Luke 13:3). Paul preached,“Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent” (Acts 17:30). “…godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation” (2Corinthians 7:10)
You must confess Christ
- Jesus said,“Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 10:32). Peter made that confession “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”(Matthew 16:16) Paul teaches, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” (Ro 10:9-10).
You must be Baptized
- Baptism is an immersion in water (Acts 8:36-38) that puts one into Christ (Romans 6:3-4; Galatians 3:27) where salvation is (2 Timothy 2:10). Jesus commanded it, “He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.” (Mark 16:16) On hearing Peter preach Jesus men asked, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” (Acts 2:37), Peter answered as Christ commanded him: “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins…” (Acts 2:38)
- Being baptized is what puts you into Christ and. No other way is found in scripture to put one into Christ. You can’t “believe into Christ”, you can’t “work into Christ”. Remember that Christ’s body is the church and no other way is given for being in Christ where all spiritual blessings are (Eph. 1:3). For more detailed information see “What Baptism Does”
You must Remain Faithful
- You must remain faithful unto death. The Lord declared, “…Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.”
(Revelation 2:10).
I hear many people say, “Jesus didn’t teach that”, but please note that under the title EVERYTHING GOD SAID that every word is from the mouth of Jesus.
Anything less is a subtraction and anything more is an addition.

Your are worth more than the whole earth, the sun, the moon, and the stars!
- The Psalmist said: “When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him” (Psalms 8:3&4)
- Jesus said: “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” Matthew 16:26
Sadly many contrary ways to be saved are taught by men today, in spite of what the Lord said.
Though men have devised many ways, the good news of the Gospel of Jesus plainly and consistently teaches us only One Way, One Truth that leads to the One Eternal Life in heaven with God. Jesus shed His blood in death, which we metaphorically come in contact with in baptism (Rom. 6:3-4) His saving blood purchased His one church, not the plethora of man made churches.
God’s plan for saving souls is by adding them to the one body, His church.
